Hello and Happy New Year to all my fellow Squidbusters. Hope you all had a nice holiday.

We are doing well. Ginger has no real progress to speak of other then combating a series of infections that just don't seem to go away. The drugs they have her on keep her at a "functional" level at best. Good news is I can still make her laugh!! Gotta be worth something, right?!

We are planning another trip to California come april or so to the Project Walk center. She is really looking forward to it. Unfortunately we haven't been able to work out as much as we would like because of the afore mentioned infections. But we should be able to start again this week if she's feeling up to it.

SO, the next bit of news is that a foundation has been established for Ginger to raise money for her to be able to go back out to the center and hopefully even recover some funds from last time.

If you would like to make a contribution, we would greatly appreciate it.

Please make checks out to The Ginger Storck Foundation.
You can mail them to:
The Traffic Group
ATTN: Jay Storck
9900 Franklin Square Dr. Suite H
Baltimore, MD 21236

Thanks to everyone who keeps Ginger in their thoughts and prayers.
Hope everyone has a safe '06! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Jay

Hey it's 6 months later...is this foundation still open for dontations?

How is Ginger doing?

Posted by: R1Armadillo

Hello all,

Yes the foundation is still open. Pretty much will be up and running untill Ginger is up and running
All the information below is still the same.
Thank you for your support.

Ginger is hanging in there as best she can. I guess the same goes for me. Nothing going on except for trying to keep the infections to a minimum.
We went to California in June and that went well. She was pooped by wed/thur but she pushed through till friday. Weather was crappy again, but it was still nice to be in California.

So its pretty much day by day and try and make her as comfortable as I can. Sometimes she just doesn't get to be comfortable and that sucks, but she deals with it the best she can.

SIMS 2 helps keep her occupied during the day.

Thought I would let everyone know that Ginger is scheduled for therapy at Kennedy Krieger here in Baltimore. KK has the same mindset as Project Walk; that is they want you out of the chair, not functioning in the chair.

So this is great news. The bad news; we have been scheduled for two weeks now, but had to postpone because... you guessed it... infections.
So keep your fingers crossed that we can start this coming week.

She has been in contact with a woman who has been going there for about 6-7months now. This person's level of injury is a bit lower then Ginger's, but "they" have her using a walker now; after six months! This is very encouraging.

So for everyone keeping track, again I (we) say thanks for your thoughts and prayers.

Cheers,
Jay

Today was very postive!
We finally made it to the center. Everyone there is very friendly and positive. They were as nice as Project Walk people. Almost felt like Project Walk without swank Cali.

Anyway, Ginger seems to be feeling pretty good right now . We'll see how she does tonight...

Here's to better days!
Cheers,
Jay

Right on Bro. Hang in there. Sounds like she is doing better.

Posted by: Falcn

Woohoooo! Glad to hear you both are still working hard and in a good mood.

Posted by: Falcn

Jay and Ginger probably won't post here to prod people as they are a class act. But I will.

If you can find a few extra dollars to help show Jay and Ginger how much we at SB support Ginger's recovery - it would be appreciated most heartily!!!

Some good news! Ginger had an appointment with her doc last week and they did an assesment test. She has regained a level of activation. Basically what this means is that Ginger responds more positively below the injury area. There is some muscular activation, on a very small scale mind you; and some sensory awareness. This is all fantastic news of course!
She will be back to therapy 3 times a week now that I have changed insurance policies. She has unlimited time now in the gym. On our old policy she only had 30 days. Bunch of crap if yuo ask me but the extra money coming out for the better plan is well worth it for her to go more often.

More to come!

Jay how is Ginger doing now?

Posted by: R1Armadillo

Well, she is hanging in there like the rest of us.
She is having a bit of a rough time right now as she is in the process of changing a medication. It is taking time for her to get back to a comfortable level (and I can assure you I use the word comfortable loosly). She is also having a bought with infections, which is keeping her from going to therapy right now.
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't just a little stressed, but I am trying to make it work as best I can.

I am sorry I don't have better news, but thanks for asking.

Thanks for the update. I will keep the both of you in my prayers.

So, all said and done Ginger is actually doing quite well with therapy again. Issues are under control for the time being. She is being a champ in the sessions. I know she is in a lot of pain, but she is working through it, and of course everyone there is very sympathetic to the "issues". The PT's and OT's continue to impresss me.

She played with a Wii for the first time. They have one now (donated by #57 Bart Scott). SHe wasn't all that impressed, but she really didn't get to play a whole lot with it. I was thnking about getting one, but we will see how she likes some of the other aspects (she really only got to play Wii Tennis).

All in all spirits are decent... right now just trying to get through the shopping aspect of the holidays!

CHEERS ALL!
Jay
