This weather sucks!!! Got a call yesterday, my EX250 wheels are now 17"! Shipped today. Now I can run tires like the big boys. My new fairing will be next week also. Hope it gets warm soon. Did ride Sunday. It felt good!

Did you get the bling carbon fiber wheels? how about magnesium? Chrome? Custom cut billet salad shooters?

What size did you go with? Just curious, I would think that a larger rear would take away some of the super flickable funness.

i'm gonna guess magnesium and a size to fit a 120 front and a 160 rear
probably wrong though

I don't think that 17 is gonna take too much away from the flickability of that bike, and what little it does will be made up in the fact that he'll be able to get some decent rubber on there.
That was my one complaint with my FZR, was trying to find good tires for the 18" rear. Good thing B'stone made the BT-090 Pro, or I'd have been pretty much stuck with street stuff.

I know the feeling, I had a super narrow rear wheel on my Hurricane. It was 17', but the biggest tire I could possibly fit was a 140, which was too small to get a sport tire for. I didn't think the the bigger diameter would hurt his bike, but the stock rear on a 250 is 120mm, you need to go to a 150 if you want sport tires, and that might slow things down a bit.

Yeah a 150 rear on a EX250 wouldn't be near as fun as that skinny 120. On our 87 Ninja 250 we had Pirellis on it and it handled great. Of course I was not roadracing it so I never exploited their limits.

Because my waterjet CNC machine was down, and OCC wasn't interested in making "real wheels", my old wheels had the rims machined off, and 17in rims welded on. 17x3.5 front, and 17x4.5 rear. Will run 120/70 front, and 150/60 rear tires. Not much bling, but I think I will get them powder coated. Mabey someday I'll hace the confidance to run a larger bike, and won't have to go through all this BS. Last year I ran GT501's.

SPINNERS!!!!!!!

Wow, I'm amazed that there is enough swingarm clearance to put a 150 on there. Did you have to change anything else?
Posted by: 2Old
There is one bolt that will have a very thin head. Other than that no problem. Or so say my new-found buddies in CA that all race EX250's! They also change the chain to 428, nessitating custom made sprokets. I am going to pass on this. AND for about 2400.00 you can get 34HP!!! (or a nice used SV track bike)

enjoy the new wheels dude and look forward to the upgrade someday

Never ever give up that lightweight track bike even if you are ready to move up. If you get rid of that one, get a more modern one
Lightweight bikes are a rip to run on the track.
I would love to see pics of the wheels before they are powder coated. Also, which shop did the work?
I think a nice thread in the upgrade section would help some people with older/smaller bikes that want to get 17" rims for better tire selection.

To use the [img] tags the pictures have to be hosted on another site. You can either do that or use the attachment options when you edit the post and upload them from your HD

who makes those plastics? also does the belly pan bolt on without the upper? got some ideas for the g/f's naked 250
Posted by: 2Old
Airtech is the only one I could find making plastic for this bike. The belly pan is held on with 3 bolts. One in the ftont and 2 on the sides. YO YO YO, the double bubble windscreen came yesterday! (it looks better than I had hoprd) Hope my riding improves as much as the bike.
