PA - http://www.pamsp.com/

PA calls its Rider Education classes commonly reffered to as the MSF the Motorcycle Safety Program. It's FREE to PA residents.

Glad you posted this up.
They must have fixed their website too. When I was looking into the MSF, I had to hunt and hunt before I finally found a course in my area. Actually, at the time, I think I gave up looking and just called the number to talk to a human.
This site is much better.

Yeah when I was looking for information for someone else before it was very hard to find. I stumbled across this site this morning.

They've been doing a LOT of testing lately preparing for a smoother registration and more info online for this upcoming season. Should go smoothly, but as usual, the courses will go fast, especially the first week or so of registering.

I actually got my license this way. I would very very very exuberantly reccomend it. As I had never ridden before, it was incredibly useful to take this. They teach you to ride from square one, starting with strategy, to bike knowledge, to actual hands on practice. Talking to experienced riders (30 years) who were taking the class with me, they were excited to take the class, as it helped them get rid of their bad habits.

One advantage to getting your license (or taking it as a refresher course) this way, is they teach you to ride while minimizing bad habits. They teach proper ways to accelerate, shift, corner, SEE (Search, evaluate, execute) riding (to minimize the need for emergency manuevers), and more. In addition, most insurance companies will give you a discount after completing this course.

I will say, if you plan to take this course, at least in PA, I found that you have to wake up real early to sign up. Find when a class's registration opens, and wake up at 8am to sign up. I signed up at 8am, and at 8:05 AM, 10 spots out of 25 were full. The class filled up that day. Although, some people no show, so standby applicants have a decent shot at getting in.

All in all, as I said earlier, any new rider (and even older riders) would benefit greatly from this class. And for experienced riders, PA offers an experienced rider course to further hone your skills. Its free, its fun, and its beneficial: it has almost no drawbacks. If your state offers this program, my advice is to do it.
