A squid reformed:

Since riding this summer with a buddy of mine, I've realized my wrongs. I wasn't the a-typical typical squid, but a semi squid that had a disreguard for my own protection and didnt really bother with safety. He made me realize what it means to be a rider, and a good one at that. Now ive found that being in control, comfortable with your bike, and safe is something that really defines you as a rider and will untill your decide to give it up.
Also, all the people that i ride with are my close friends and SUPER squids, and since I feel like a reformed rider im really losing intrest in riding with them. There all about speeding on the freeway, im not. Their all about posing, going in a strait line with no helmits along with tattoos showing, im about cornering and preventing chicken strips.

Dont get me wrong, i love speed, and still wheelie occasionally, but seeeing my friends not caring about being better riders pisses me off.

I only hope to be accepted by this community and squashing my inner squid.

YAY!! Welcome to the darkside!! (j/k)

Ah, I can honestly say I'm a reformed squid myself. While I never RODE squidly, I rode 2-up with a (ex) boyfriend who was. Sometimes he'd wear gear, and other times he was a shorts/tee/sunglasses kinda rider... which of course rubbed off on me. He bought a liter bike as his first bike, and encouraged me to get a 636 for mine... he never explained to me that 600s/RR's are NOT starter bikes. He would routinely pull up a wheelie or do a stoppie in moderate traffic/busy roads... I simply never knew better.

Luckily, I got rid of him, but not the passion for riding. I also fell in with some much safer, smarter riders who coached me in the right direction. Now? I'd never consider riding in shorts and flipflops, and I won't ride with anyone who does (my thinking being if they don't care much for their own safety, they won't have any regard for mine either).

Just be glad you've seen the error of your ways, and did so before anything bad happened to you.... Ride safe, and enjoy!

Welcome, enjoy the site.

Remember guilt by association. Riding with those people speeding down the highway willl eventually get you in trouble. Maybe one day a cop will arrest all of you, and give you enough tickets to take your license, and make you uninsurable for the furure. maybe, as Joaquin Phoenix says in 8mm, "You are going to see some things, some things you can't un-see." You do not want to see one of your friends made into hamburger in person. You do NOT want to see someone's head split open. That will never leave you. Riding with the guys who travel inpacks and speed past cars in hopes of getting their jolies is never going to end good. and, in a year or two when one of them crashes and they all sell their bikes, you will be left alone anyway. you're better off without them, at least as riding buddies.

Look at us, we are spread out all over the place, with millions of riders in between us yet we seek out each other to ride with good people. They are in your area, you just have to find them.

No Crap!.....I had my (first) wedding reception at the Lowell Inn! I used to make the run up the St. Croix to Taylors Falls all the time.

My buddies asked me to ride today since Grand Ole Days (A summer festival in St. Paul) is gonig on, probably just to pose and act hard, so i turned them down. I felt pretty good for doing it. Plus im pretty hung over.
