Twenty-20 VholdR Helmet Cam
It’s a new riding season and time to start making some more moto videos. One thing I don’t like about my current setup is trying to keep the rider in front of me in frame. In order to do it you have to stay much to close to the rider in front of you. So I decided to try a helmet cam that will film where I look to keep the rider in frame and further in front of me for a safe riding gap. I purchased a Twenty-20 VholdR helmet cam to accomplish this. The VholdR is a fully in closed camera that mounts to the side of your helmet. It records onto a 2GB MiniSD card that will hold about 90 minutes of video. In the box you get the camera, a USB cable, a battery, and 1 helmet side mount. You have to purchase the 2GB miniSD card separately. I would recommend getting 2 miniSD cards and an extra battery if you want to get more then 90 minutes of video. The battery life is supposed to last 2 hours. You have to charge the cam from a USB port on your computer or you will have to purchase a wall outlet charging station separately. It takes about 4 hours to get a full charge from a USB port. Mounting the cam to your helmet is very easy and has vertical adjustment from the base and horizontal adjustment at the lens. There is also two laser sights to make sure it is pointing where you want it to point. The video is recorded at 640x480 and has good color and definition. My MiniDV cam has a better pic but it is also much larger then the VholdR. The mic is ok but like every camera on a bike at speed all you can hear is wind. You would think they would fix that since the cam is made for motor sports but I like to put music over my video anyway so whatever. There is also no option for remote audio if you would like to have something in your helmet to record your voice. The cam is very lite and you will not notice it when mounted to your helmet. I got out on 695 and did 60mph and didn’t even notice the wind grabbing at it. I did have to secure the safety line so it didn’t tap on the sad of my helmet. The cam works very well and I would highly recommend it for user that just want to slap it on and go. There are also many other mounts you can buy to put the cam on your bike. If you look through their site you will see all of the other choices available. I would like to try mounting to my rear sub frame for a review with the tire and exhaust in frame (MotoGP style). So here is a link to my demo video. Tell me what you think? The video has been down graded for veiwing on YouTube. The original AVI file is much nicer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRS5x7FulII Last edited by VonKujo : 04-11-2008 at 09:27 AM. |

You could always get a cheap wide angle lens.....that's what I did.
But I have been looking at those cams, thanks for the review! How do you start and stop recording on it? Is 2Gb the max? |

Thanks for the review! Definitely looks like a new toy I need to get

I believe there is a switch on the other side of the cam. You can easily slide it on or off... even with gloves on... or so the website claims. Seems like pretty easy and simple operation while on the move! Thanks again for the review! |

Very large slider on the top of the cam. Easy to operate with gloves on. MiniSD max out at 2GB. Last edited by VonKujo : 04-13-2008 at 04:12 PM. |

Camera busted in the first year. I took the cam out to charge the batts the other day and nothing. The USB port on the back of the cam is bad. If you press the usb cable in and hold it the charge light comes on but once you let go the light goes out. It sounds like vholdr is going to take care of me. At first they thought it was the batteries and were going to send me a few for free to try out. But I found the true problem today and I am waiting to hear back from them on what they are going to do now. I am guessing they will replace it since it is with in it's year warrenty. I will keep you posted on the out come.
By the way, they have an HD version coming out soon... |

We found the cam had a bad USB port and Twenty-20 promptly sent me a RMA. I shipped the bad cam back on Monday and recieved the new one today (Saturday). I only sent them the cam and they sent me a full new kit (Second Gen Cam, 1GB microSD, 1 Battery, 1 helmet mount).
The new Cam has some improvement in the design and I am hopping the second gen has a nicer cam. I am charging my batts so I will do a test run tomorrow. They are also working on a HD version of the vHoldr that will be released soon. |
